Howdy, planning to head to Costa Rica for 3 weeks over Xmas into January

Plan is 2 weeks of a trip around. Travelling solo so will probably do a organised tour (GAP/Toucan/etc - any recomednations welcome)

Then a few days chilling by a beach somewhere getting some surf and hopefully some friendly surroundings and social drinking on.

Surf level is medium so not looking for anything too narly, just a chilled out beachbreak with plenty of other medium level surfer tourists with sunburn.

Any advice warmly welcomed!!

I would like to meet other travelling surfers so anybody have any good recomendations for where to stay?

I'm hearing good things about Mal Pais in my research and Tranquilo Backpackers.

Anybody have any experience there?
